Inside This Unit: The Full Breakdown
Unit 2 develops vocabulary and the skill of reading Latin in its own word order.
Why it matters
Fluent reading — not constant rearranging — is what the timed exam rewards.
Key concepts
- High-frequency vocabulary and word families speed reading.
- Read in Latin word order, tracking grammar by endings.
- Adjectives agree with nouns in case, number, and gender.
Reading in Word Order
Process Latin left to right, using endings to track subject, verb, and objects rather than reordering into English. Build high-frequency vocabulary, use word families and English derivatives to infer meaning, and watch enclitics (-que “and”, -ne question marker).
AP exam tip
Practice reading whole clauses before translating — let the endings tell you the relationships.
