Two of the most popular "first AP" choices. Both have high pass rates, are content-light compared to other APs, and don't require prerequisites. Here's the comparison.
Content
- AP Psychology studies behavior and mental processes: biological bases, learning, cognition, development, personality, abnormal psych.
- AP Human Geography studies how humans interact with space: population, migration, culture, agriculture, urbanization, political geography.
Difficulty
- AP Psych: 60% pass rate, 17% 5-rate.
- AP HuG: 60% pass rate, 16% 5-rate.
Statistically nearly identical. Most students find AP Psych slightly more intuitive because the content connects to everyday experience. AP HuG requires memorizing more terminology.
Which Is Better First?
Take AP Psych first if you're interested in human behavior or planning to study psychology, neuroscience, or social science.
Take AP HuG first if you're considering geography, urban planning, international relations, or political science.
If you don't know: AP Psych. It's more universally interesting and has slightly higher 5-rates.
