AP Statistics provides one of the most complete reference sheets of any AP exam. On exam day you receive a formulas and tables booklet with descriptive statistics, probability, inference, and distribution tables.
What the AP Stats Formula Sheet Includes
- Descriptive statistics: Mean, standard deviation formulas, IQR definition, regression line (ŷ = a + bx), correlation coefficient r formula.
- Probability: P(A ∪ B) = P(A) + P(B) − P(A ∩ B), conditional probability, binomial probability formula, geometric distribution.
- Sampling distributions: Mean and standard deviation of x̄ and p̂.
- Inference: Confidence interval formula (statistic ± critical value × SE), test statistic formula (statistic − parameter)/SE, chi-square test statistic.
- Tables: Standard normal table (z-table), t-distribution critical values, chi-square critical values.
What the Formula Sheet Doesn't Save You From
The formula sheet gives you equations but not interpretation. AP Stats FRQs heavily test whether you can explain results in context — "there is strong evidence (p = 0.02 < α = 0.05) to reject H₀" is a full sentence, not just a number. Knowing which test to use, checking conditions, and writing conclusions in plain language is where most points are won or lost.
