Chain rule: If y = f(g(x)), then dy/dx = f prime(g(x)) times g prime(x). The derivative of the outer function evaluated at the inner, multiplied by the derivative of the inner.
How to apply it: Apply the chain rule whenever one function is composed inside another, such as sin(x squared) or e to the 3x.
