AP Class Tier List (Ranked by Difficulty + Value)

The honest tier list nobody on Reddit will give you straight. Ranked by a combination of pass rate, 5-rate, college value, and effort-to-reward ratio.

S-Tier (Take These)

• AP Calculus BC — 45% 5-rate, universally respected for STEM, doubles as Calc AB credit.
• AP Computer Science A — High pass rate, huge college value for any tech-adjacent major.
• AP Chemistry — Hard, but the credential is gold for pre-med and engineering.

A-Tier (Excellent Value)

• AP US History — Hard but signals serious academic rigor.
• AP English Language — Improves your writing for college, decent pass rate.
• AP Biology — Pre-med staple, content is manageable.
• AP Physics 1 — Brutal but builds real reasoning skills.
• AP Statistics — Surprisingly useful for any social science or business major.

B-Tier (Solid Choices)

• AP World History, AP European History, AP US Government, AP Macroeconomics, AP Microeconomics, AP English Literature.

C-Tier (Easy Wins, Lower Prestige)

• AP Psychology — Highest pass rate, but seen as introductory.
• AP Human Geography — Often taken in 9th grade, low difficulty.
• AP Environmental Science — Decent content, low prestige.
• AP Computer Science Principles — Easier than CS A, less respected for tech majors.

D-Tier (Skip Unless You're Passionate)

• AP Music Theory, AP Studio Art, AP Latin — niche credentials that don't transfer to most majors.

Remember: the tier list assumes you're optimizing for college admissions value. If you love a "lower tier" subject, take it anyway — your passion + a 5 outweighs a 3 in a "higher tier" course.
