The honest tier list nobody on Reddit will give you straight. Ranked by a combination of pass rate, 5-rate, college value, and effort-to-reward ratio.

S-Tier (Take These)

  • AP Calculus BC β€” 45% 5-rate, universally respected for STEM, doubles as Calc AB credit.
  • AP Computer Science A β€” High pass rate, huge college value for any tech-adjacent major.
  • AP Chemistry β€” Hard, but the credential is gold for pre-med and engineering.

A-Tier (Excellent Value)

  • AP US History β€” Hard but signals serious academic rigor.
  • AP English Language β€” Improves your writing for college, decent pass rate.
  • AP Biology β€” Pre-med staple, content is manageable.
  • AP Physics 1 β€” Brutal but builds real reasoning skills.
  • AP Statistics β€” Surprisingly useful for any social science or business major.

B-Tier (Solid Choices)

C-Tier (Easy Wins, Lower Prestige)

  • AP Psychology β€” Highest pass rate, but seen as introductory.
  • AP Human Geography β€” Often taken in 9th grade, low difficulty.
  • AP Environmental Science β€” Decent content, low prestige.
  • AP Computer Science Principles β€” Easier than CS A, less respected for tech majors.

D-Tier (Skip Unless You're Passionate)

  • AP Music Theory, AP Studio Art, AP Latin β€” niche credentials that don't transfer to most majors.

Remember: the tier list assumes you're optimizing for college admissions value. If you love a "lower tier" subject, take it anyway β€” your passion + a 5 outweighs a 3 in a "higher tier" course.
