2026 AP scores are out: College Board began releasing them Monday, July 6, 2026, rolling out in waves over release week (international test-takers typically around July 10). The 2026 release, in practice
Scores don't all appear the first day — the rollout spreads over the week to manage load, so a missing score usually means "later today or tomorrow," not a problem with your exam. You'll get an email from College Board when yours are ready. See the full release rundown: AP scores 2026 — how to check.
How AP scores are reported
AP scores are reported on a 1–5 scale. Each score has a standard interpretation: 5 = extremely well qualified, 4 = well qualified, 3 = qualified, 2 = possibly qualified, 1 = no recommendation. Most colleges grant credit for scores of 3, 4, or 5 — but the threshold varies by school and subject. Check each college's AP credit policy specifically.
If your score is lower than expected
- You can request a free score review (for multiple-choice) or pay for a hand score review (for free response) through your College Board account.
- You can withhold or cancel a score through your College Board account. The deadline to stop the free score send passed in mid-June, but you can still withhold a score from any college you send reports to later — withholding is per-college and reversible; cancellation is permanent.
- You can retake in 2027. Many students retake APUSH, AP English Language, or AP Calculus after a 2 or 3 to earn credit at their target college. A summer of deliberate practice dramatically changes outcomes.
Planning for 2027 after 2026 scores
If you got a 2 or 3 and want to retake, use July as your planning month. Identify which rubric points you missed in the essay section — the score report shows your FRQ performance by question. Then use summer practice to target those specific gaps.
